Approaching Nirvana has always been about supporting other creators and I love letting other creators use my music. On this page I give independent content creators on YouTube a license to use Approaching Nirvana music for commercial or non-commercial purposes. In order to abide by this license I ask for a few things in return.
Important Update:
As of August 14, 2023 - I am working with Frequency Music to control my music in the Content ID system on YouTube while maintaining my YouTube license (detailed below). Everything below still applies and as long as you credit me properly, you will not receive a claim. You can continue to use my music for free on YouTube and monetize your videos.
If you receive a claim, it may appear as “We Are Era Music BV” or “Frequency Music”. Please ensure that proper credit is in your video description (including “Music by Approaching Nirvana” and a link to my YouTube channel as detailed below) and to reach out Frequency Music via this Google Form: https://forms.gle/nBLJaoN7EG9QMzph9 - Your claim will be released as soon as possible, in most cases within 24-48 hours.
Now let's lay things out in a clear, concise manner.
Specifically, Approaching Nirvana gives Independent Content Creators on YouTube permission to do the following:
You may use the music as background music or as part of your own creative video without being required to pay any performance royalties.
You may use the music in commercial or noncommercial videos on YouTube only. If you're looking to use my music outside of YouTube, contact me.
This license does not give you permission to do the following:
You cannot reupload the music to YouTube without adding your own creative content.
You cannot claim the music as your own.
You cannot use the music in any project outside of YouTube without the express permission of Approaching Nirvana.
You cannot sell the music.
You cannot use any remixes, mashups, parodies, cover instrumentals or tracks signed to other labels. (See Exceptions below)
To use Approaching Nirvana music, you must abide by the following:
Purchase the music legally.
Credit by name (Approaching Nirvana) in the description of your YouTube video
Link back to the YouTube channel (http://youtube.com/user/approachingnirvana) in the description of your YouTube video
Mention the song name in the description of your YouTube video
Place a link to stream the song on Spotify in the description of your video (preferrably a shortened link via bit.ly)
Here's a template that you can use for the text in your YouTube video description:

Lastly, there are a few of my songs that you should NOT use in your content for various reasons. Please refer to the Exceptions Page for specifics!
And that's it! I love supporting the YouTube community and will do my best to continue my commitment to make my music available for use within YouTube.
